Simply answered, there is no sure and easy method to determine the final cost of a log home as there are many factors which will affect the final cost. These factors include:

Generally speaking, the lower the square footage of a house, the higher the price per square foot it is to build as there are many fixed costs such as driveway, well, septic, fireplace, etc.... For example, a stone fireplace in a 1,000 square foot home will cost the same as a fireplace would in a 3,000 square foot home, but the final effect of the square foot price is much greater on a 1,000 square foot home.
Don't be fooled by apparent low kit prices. A log kit can contain any amount of materials the manufacturer chooses to put in their kit. Log homes with conventionally built framed roof systems which include the plywood and shingles may appear to contain more materials, but the tongue & groove to finish the inside and the insulation may be an option. Exposed rafters with tongue & groove and rigid insulation panels cannot be compared to a conventionally framed roof system. Our log homes are affordable, competitive, and an excellent investment in your future as they appreciate faster than a conventional home. They are not competitive with a mobile home, modular home, or a frame built home of far inferior materials. High quality is not going to be the cheapest price.
